The song Wavin' Flag matters to me because it talks about the hardships people are going through on the day-to-day basis for example having to fight in order to eat, let alone survive in the war-torn area. This song is similar to the article Alexie, it talks about wanting to be free and knowing that, that day will come and people will be safe again. In Alexie underprivileged kids had to face hardships of the everyday life just like K'naan explained in Wavin Flag. Their all fighting for one thing and that's freedom, so that they can live the way they want to and not be dictated. As you get older and start to take on life it makes you stronger as a person no matter what it will throw at you, your going to find a way to push through it.
Sometimes you just have to wait for that one day to come and you will have your chance at being able to move on and be that person you want to be. Another reason it matters to me because it shows that no matter how hard you fight that there will always be light at the end of the tunnel for you to show it's your time. People are going to try and tell you that you should do this or that, but it doesn't matter what they say as long as your happy and doing what you love in order to achieve that one goal you have set for yourself. Eventually the harder you keep working the more likely that goal of yours is going to come true no matter what happens in life.

In Why the Best Kids Books Are Written in Blood it talks about how the under privileged kids are not protected from all the terrors of life but the privileged kids are. Although the privileged kids are still facing problems of there own even though no one recognizes there's because of where they come from. She receives tons of letters and notes everyday telling her how much they really enjoyed her YA novel and how they plan to hopefully find a better life. Then she talked to a privileged kid who was in agony because his father was pushing him to be just like him, but that's not who he wanted to be and so he was struggling almost as bad as the underprivileged kids were. One of the main points is that she writes to help give kids a way out and be able to learn something so that there able to take there mind off the everyday dangers they face.
There trying to protect the privileged kids and there writing because they feel that there the only ones who will have an opportunity to actually do something in life. The writing is to help kids understand that there is someone out there who understands what there dealing with and there ways out so that capable of being successful one day and knowing that no matter what your dealing with you can write to express what's going on. Finally, she wants them to be able to read whenever they want not just when there asked to in school.

In How to Mark a Book, Adler talks about how it's important to take notes while reading. You shouldn't just read them because you won't pick up as much information as you possibly could. While reading its good to take side notes because there maybe some key words in there that you can come back to later if you didn't understand the meaning to them then. For some people they collect books and leave them on the shelves because there either so valuable or a best seller that writing in the books would deter the condition of them. When the reader is reading the book they should feel like there having a personal conversation with them as they read. Those types of books the author has a real connection about what they we're writing about so the reader could understand where there coming from.  When writing side notes it allows you to keep that thought you had earlier so that you can come back to it later and remember what you read. Some people write on a note pad, but they don't always remember where they put it so it really didn't help them that much at all. There are multiple ways you can take notes while reading for example; highlight, indent page, etc. After you finished reading the book you can't lend it out because what you have done to the inside of it will mess up what the next reader might think.
